Project KV Cancelled After Negative Reactions Over Blue Archive Similarities

Project KV: Cancellation Following Backlash Over Blue Archive Resemblance
Dynamis One, a studio founded by former Blue Archive developers, has pulled the plug on its anticipated game, Project KV. The project, which generated considerable buzz upon its reveal, faced intense criticism due to its striking similarities to Blue Archive, the mobile game the team previously worked on at Nexon Games.
The studio announced the cancellation via Twitter (X) on September 9th, issuing an apology for the controversy and acknowledging concerns regarding the game's resemblance to Blue Archive. They stated their commitment to avoiding future issues and confirmed the removal of all Project KV materials from online platforms. Dynamis One expressed regret to fans who had supported the project. The statement concluded with a pledge to strive harder to meet future expectations.
Project KV's initial promotional video, released August 18th, showcased a voiced story prologue. A second teaser followed two weeks later, offering a closer look at characters and storyline. However, the project's cancellation came swiftly, just a week after the second teaser. While a setback for Dynamis One, online reactions largely celebrated the decision.
Blue Archive and the "Red Archive" Controversy
Dynamis One, headed by former Blue Archive lead Park Byeong-Lim, sparked discussion upon its founding in April. Park's departure from Nexon, along with key developers, raised immediate questions among the Blue Archive fanbase.
The subsequent unveiling of Project KV ignited a firestorm. Fans quickly pointed out significant similarities—aesthetic, musical, and conceptual—between the two projects, both featuring a Japanese-style city populated by weapon-wielding female students.
The presence of a "Master" character, echoing Blue Archive's "Sensei," and the use of halo-like adornments above characters, mirroring a key visual element in Blue Archive, further fueled the controversy.
These halos, far from mere decoration in Blue Archive, carried narrative weight, serving as a significant visual symbol of the IP. Their appearance in Project KV sparked accusations of plagiarism and the perception of Project KV as a blatant copy. Online speculation even suggested "KV" stood for "Kivotos," the fictional city in Blue Archive, leading to the moniker "Red Archive."
Kim Yong-ha, Blue Archive's general producer, indirectly addressed the situation by sharing a fan account's clarification on Twitter (X), emphasizing that Project KV was not a sequel or spin-off.
The overwhelmingly negative response ultimately led to Project KV's cancellation. Dynamis One's announcement lacked specifics, leaving the future direction of the studio and its ability to learn from this experience uncertain. While some expressed disappointment, many viewed the cancellation as a justified response to the alleged plagiarism.
