Prominent YouTuber Faces Kidnapping Charges
Summary
- YouTuber Corey Pritchett, facing aggravated kidnapping charges, has fled the US.
- Pritchett posted a video from abroad, making light of the situation and the warrants for his arrest.
- His potential return to the US and the case's resolution remain uncertain.
Popular YouTube personality Corey Pritchett is facing serious accusations: two counts of aggravated kidnapping. Following the filing of these charges, Pritchett reportedly left the country, a move that has shocked his substantial online fanbase.
For those unfamiliar, Pritchett is a US-based content creator known for his engaging online presence. His YouTube career began in 2016, featuring vlogs, challenges, and pranks. While not a top-tier YouTuber, he commands a significant following, with his primary channel, "CoreySSG," boasting approximately 4 million subscribers and a secondary channel, "CoreySSG Live," exceeding 1 million. A particularly successful video, "LET’S HAVE A BABY PRANK," has amassed over 12 million views.
Pritchett's legal troubles stem from an alleged kidnapping incident on November 24, 2024, in southwest Houston, adding to a concerning trend of kidnapping cases involving online creators. According to ABC13, two women, aged 19 and 20, met Pritchett at a gym and spent the day with him, engaging in activities such as ATV riding and bowling. The situation escalated dramatically when Pritchett allegedly threatened them at gunpoint, sped away on I-10, confiscated their phones, and reportedly told them he intended to kill them. The women later informed authorities that Pritchett appeared anxious, believing someone was pursuing him, and had allegedly been accused of arson.
Pritchett's Flight and Subsequent Video
After stopping his vehicle, Pritchett allegedly allowed the women a chance to escape. They walked for over an hour before finding help and contacting law enforcement. Charged on December 26, 2024, with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, Pritchett had already fled the country. Authorities confirmed his departure via flight to Doha, Qatar, on December 9th, using a one-way ticket. He's now reportedly in Dubai, where he uploaded a video mocking the warrants, claiming to be "on the run" and making light of the situation. This contrasts with the serious situation faced by former YouTube streamer Johnny Somali, who is facing potential jail time in South Korea (though unrelated to Pritchett's case).
The outcome of Pritchett's case remains uncertain, and his willingness to return to the US to face charges is unknown. It's noteworthy that in 2023, YouTuber YourFellowArab was kidnapped for ransom in Haiti, eventually being released and later sharing footage of his ordeal with a Haitian gang.
