Rainbow Six Siege X has kicked off its Closed Beta, spotlighting the innovative 6v6 Dual Front game mode. Dive in to explore details about this new mode and the beta testing phase.

Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Highlights Major Update Features

Closed Beta Launches March 13, 2025

Ubisoft revealed on their official site that the Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) Closed Beta will run from March 13 at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase, until March 19 at the same times.

Players can secure access to the R6 Siege X Closed Beta by tuning into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or various Content Creators’ Twitch streams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta includes the Dual Front mode and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Currently, some players are facing issues with missing emails containing beta access codes. On March 14, Ubisoft Support addressed this on Twitter (X), stating they are working to resolve it and deliver codes promptly.

Note that R6 Siege X is not a standalone title but a significant update, enhancing Siege with advanced graphics and technical improvements.

Introducing the 6v6 Dual Front Mode

Ubisoft unveiled Dual Front, a fast-paced 6v6 mode that, per their website, “introduces core upgrades like visual enhancements, audio improvements, refined rappelling, and bolstered player protection systems, all accessible for free, delivering the tactical intensity of Rainbow Six Siege.”

Set on the new District map, Dual Front pits two teams of six Operators against each other, simultaneously attacking and defending sectors. This mode marks a first for R6, blending attacking and defending roles to spark creative gadget use and strategic play.

The classic Siege experience, now dubbed “Core Siege” in the main menu, remains intact. It includes updated versions of Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe maps with doubled texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and improved destructible surfaces. Five maps are currently revamped, with three more planned per future season.

Free-to-Play Access from Season 2, Year 10

After a decade, Siege will transition to free-to-play, aligning with industry trends. Unlike 2015, when paid multiplayer titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 dominated, live-service games now thrive.

At the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta on March 13, Siege Game Director Alexander Karpazis told PC Gamer the goal is to welcome new players. “We want friends to try Siege and experience what makes it unique,” he said, adding, “It’s best with friends, lowering the entry barrier.”

Free access covers Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front modes. However, Ranked mode and Siege Cup require premium access. In a 2020 PC Gamer interview, former director Leroy Athanassoff explained that the initial pay-to-play model deterred smurfs and cheaters.

Karpazis noted, “A paywall for Ranked and Siege Cup ensures commitment, filtering out smurfs while supporting competitive play. It balances welcoming new players with a dedicated space for veterans.”

No Plans for Siege 2

Karpazis confirmed that a Siege 2 was never considered, despite the game’s 10-year milestone. Unlike competitors like Overwatch 2 or Counter-Strike 2, R6 Siege focuses on evolving the original.

“Siege 2 wasn’t an option,” Karpazis said. “Many live-service games hitting 10 years face this. We focused on what’s right for Siege and its players.” He added that development, ongoing for three years alongside seasonal updates, aims to sustain Siege for another decade.

“Siege X is about bold, meaningful changes,” Karpazis explained. “We’re committed to another 10 years, honoring the community that’s supported us.”

Rainbow Six Siege X launches June 10, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with our latest Rainbow Six Siege coverage below!
