Recent reports confirm that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have left the God of War adaptation. Despite having reportedly completed multiple scripts, Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision. This is a reboot, not a cancellation.
Key figures remaining attached to the project include executive producers Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio's Creative Director), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Yumi Yang (Santa Monica Studio). The search is now on for a new showrunner, producers, and writers to guide the series in a new direction.
The Road Ahead
The collaboration between Amazon and Sony for the God of War adaptation was initially announced in 2022, building on the success of the 2018 God of War reboot. This project falls under Sony's broader strategy of adapting its popular video game franchises for film and television, a strategy that launched PlayStation Productions in 2019.
