Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Debuts With Ultra-Thin Design
Samsung has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, during its May Unpacked event. While it shares much in common with the Galaxy S25 released earlier this year, its sleek new, thinner design aims to give it a distinct competitive edge.
On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is strikingly similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. It utilizes the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and boasts a comparable 200MP primary camera. The key divergence lies in the chassis, which has been refined to a mere 5.8mm thickness, down from the Ultra's 8.2mm. Naturally, this slimmer profile also reduces weight, bringing it down to just 163 grams.
The device is equipped with the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found on the standard Galaxy S25, even though its core specifications otherwise align closely with the slightly larger 6.9-inch Galaxy S25 Ultra.
With a form factor this slim and a screen this large, durability is a primary consideration. Samsung states it has tackled this by upgrading to the new Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which promises greater resilience than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used on the Ultra model. However, the larger concern for many may be its resistance to bending in a pocket, rather than its performance in a drop. (Will this be enough to prevent a new "bendgate" controversy?)
The Galaxy S25 Edge also comes with the full suite of "Mobile AI" tools, first introduced on the Galaxy S24 last year and further enhanced throughout 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip enables significant on-device AI processing, a major benefit for user privacy, though numerous AI applications will still depend on cloud connectivity. Samsung has included several innovative features, such as the ability to summarize notifications and news articles at a glance, for those who find that functionality appealing.
Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge begin today. Pricing starts at $1,099 for the 256GB variant and $1,219 for the 512GB model. The phone is offered in three color finishes: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icy Blue.
Samsung is making a strong case for this slender phone's toughness; we can only hope its claims hold true.
