While details about the film remain largely under wraps, we do know it will be set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed this timeline, noting in a February interview with Deadline that the movie is "all post-[the first] nine. Shawn's is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out." This makes Levy's film the first to delve into the post-Rise of Skywalker era.

In the same conversation, Kennedy also revealed that Levy's film will follow the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu in 2026. "I'm producing the Mandalorian movie right now, and I'm also producing Shawn Levy's movie, which is after that," she stated. Another exciting detail is that Ryan Gosling is reportedly set to star in the film.

Tropper's comments suggest that progress is being made, though fans will need to wait until at least the last quarter of 2026, or possibly 2027, for the movie to hit theaters. Since Disney's last Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, the studio has faced some challenges, including the cancellation of projects like one from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and a trilogy from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Additionally, a Star Wars movie planned for late 2026 was recently removed from Disney's release calendar.
