Fans of the acclaimed 2012 video game Sleeping Dogs received a glimmer of hope for a film adaptation after Marvel star Simu Liu stepped in. Earlier this month, the film project was officially cancelled, but Liu's recent comments suggest a potential revival. As reported by Newsweek, Liu responded to a fan's post on X/Twitter, expressing his efforts to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," Liu stated, indicating his active involvement in the project's resurrection.

The adaptation was initially announced in 2017 with actor Donnie Yen set to star. However, the project vanished from the public eye a year later, and just weeks ago, Yen confirmed its cancellation. He shared his disappointment, saying, "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights. I waited for years. And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?"

Hope for a continuation of the Hong Kong-set action franchise seemed lost until Liu, known for his role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, responded to a fan's post on social media. Whether Liu will secure the rights or successfully revive the project remains uncertain, but his involvement has reignited interest among fans.
