As a sequel to the 2014 free-to-play MOBA Smite, Smite 2 was unveiled nearly a decade after its predecessor, offering a completely revamped gameplay experience powered by Unreal Engine 5. Similar to the original, Smite 2 allows players to embody legendary figures and Gods from various global pantheons, ranging from Greek mythology to traditional Japanese deities. Since its Alpha launch in September, players have had access to 14 Gods, with the roster expected to expand to nearly 50 by the end of January 2025. The developers have shared more details about upcoming features, including new characters and game modes.

When Does the Smite 2 F2P Open Beta Begin?

A new 3v3 game mode called Joust has been announced for the F2P open beta. Set in an Arthurian-themed area, players can navigate the map using Teleporters and utilize Stealth Grass to ambush opponents. This same map will also host Duel, a new 1v1 mode. Additionally, the Aspects feature introduces a novel gameplay mechanic where players can exchange a specific element of their God's build for a powerful advantage. For instance, with Aspects enabled, Athena can no longer teleport to shield an ally but can instead teleport to foes to debilitate them. During the open beta, 20 out of Smite 2's 45 dynamic Gods will have Aspects, with plans to add more in the future.

Smite 2 is also set to receive numerous quality-of-life enhancements, including Role Guides, helpful tips for new players, PC text chat, improved item stores, death recaps, and more. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale is slated for January 17-19 at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas, highlighting the game's competitive potential. Smite 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
