Sonic Movie Producers to Create Live-Action Toys 'R' Us Film
A live-action Toys "R" Us movie is on the horizon, and it's set to bring a wave of nostalgia to audiences everywhere. According to Variety, the project is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the creative force behind recent video game movie adaptations like the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Their goal? To capture the essence of childhood wonder in a thrilling, modern adventure that pays homage to the Toys 'R' Us brand's 70-year legacy in the toy industry.
Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg, co-founders of Story Kitchen, expressed their excitement about the project. "Toys 'R' Us is a cultural touchstone that continues impacting the child in all of us today," they stated. "As '80s kids who considered Toys 'R' Us one of the most magical places on Earth, we’re honored to partner to create a film that will capture the spirit of adventure, creativity and nostalgia that Toys 'R' Us represents."

The movie draws inspiration from beloved films like Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, as well as successful toy-to-movie crossovers like Barbie. While specific casting details remain under wraps, Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval will produce for Story Kitchen, alongside Kim Miller Olko of Toys "R" Us Studios.

Story Kitchen's recent projects also include a film adaptation of Square Enix's Just Cause, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, as well as adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs. With such a diverse portfolio, the Toys "R" Us movie is poised to be a delightful addition to their lineup.
