Sony Gives $5M for LA Wildfires

Feb 23,26(2 months ago)

Sony, the company behind PlayStation, has pledged $5 million to aid first responders, fund community relief and rebuilding initiatives, and provide support programs for individuals impacted by the devastating wildfires sweeping through Southern California.

In a joint statement posted on X/Twitter, Sony Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, along with President and COO Hiroki Totoki, stated, "Los Angeles has served as the home for our entertainment operations for over 35 years."

"We remain committed to collaborating with local business leaders to identify the most effective ways for Sony Group to contribute to relief and recovery in the coming days."

The fires ignited on January 7th, and a week later, three major wildfires continue to cause widespread damage across the greater Los Angeles region.

According to BBC reports, 24 fatalities have been confirmed and 23 individuals are missing within the two largest fire complexes, with firefighters preparing for a critical day as wind conditions are forecast to intensify.

Sony is among several corporations contributing to wildfire relief efforts. As noted by CNBC, other significant donations include $15 million from Disney, $10 million each from Netflix and Comcast, $5 million from the NFL, $2.5 million from Walmart, and $1 million from Fox.
