Nintendo has confirmed the end of regular content updates for the acclaimed Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue. Monthly challenges and necessary weapon adjustments/balance patches will also be released.

The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

Launched two years ago on September 9th, Splatoon 3's shift away from active development has fueled rumors of a sequel, Splatoon 4.

Intriguingly, some players believe they've discovered potential easter eggs or hints within the Grand Festival event, suggesting a new city setting for a future Splatoon game. One fan commented on a post showing in-game images of a futuristic city: "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others remain unconvinced, pointing out similarities to existing locations.

While no official announcement exists, speculation surrounding Splatoon 4 has been building for months. Reports indicate Nintendo has begun development on a new Switch title in the series.
