In Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, players will encounter numerous NPCs during their exploration of The Zone, often leading to quests ranging from small tasks to substantial side missions, such as "For Science!". This mission begins with a meeting between Skif and Yaryk Mongoose, who will then assign the player the task of activating a second measuring device located atop a silo. While relatively short, completing this quest rewards players with a Malachite pass, granting access to the STC Malachite facilities.

Initiating the "For Science!" Side Quest

The "For Science!" quest begins within the Central Elevator area of the Chemical Plant. Approaching this location triggers a radio conversation between Mongoose and Skif, prompting Skif to meet Mongoose at the building. Upon entering the Central Elevator, proceed left, past the conveyor belts, and ascend the rusty stairs. Mongoose is on the first floor; simply vault the railing to reach him and initiate the conversation. He'll explain the need to activate a second device on a nearby silo, initiating the quest upon acceptance.

Reaching the Silo's Summit

After the conversation, climb to the building's roof. Expect a rodent encounter; dispatch them and enter a room with broken windows. Climb out and use the external ladder to reach the silos. Equip your bolt-action weapon to counter the electro anomalies present. Proceed left along the silo's top to locate and activate the second measuring device.

Dealing with the Aftermath

Activating the device attracts a pack of Bloodsuckers. Players can choose to eliminate them or evade them to reach Mongoose. Upon confronting Mongoose, he'll explain the experiment's unintended consequences. Players have the option of killing Mongoose for endangering Skif or accepting the reward and departing. Neither choice has significant repercussions; killing him allows looting the Malachite pass from his corpse. However, choosing the non-hostile option yields both the Malachite pass and some additional rewards. The pass grants access to the STC Malachite base, unless already accessible through main missions.
