For over a decade, fans of the Suikoden series have felt the absence of this beloved JRPG. However, hope is on the horizon with the announcement of the upcoming HD remaster of the first two games. The anticipation for the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is palpable, as it promises to breathe new life into the classic JRPG series. In a recent interview with Famitsu, translated via Google, Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama shared their aspirations for the project. They hope that the remaster will not only introduce a new generation of gamers to the Suikoden series but also reignite the passion of its long-time fans.

Ogushi, who shares a deep personal connection with the series, expressed his admiration for the late series creator Yoshitaka Murayama. "I’m sure Murayama would have wanted to be involved as well," Ogushi remarked. He fondly recalled telling Murayama about his involvement in remaking the illustrations, to which Murayama responded with envy.

Sakiyama, who directed Suikoden V and was new to the franchise at the time, emphasized his desire to bring Suikoden back into the spotlight. "I really wanted to bring ‘Genso Suikoden’ back to the world, and now I can finally deliver it," he stated. His vision extends beyond the remaster, hoping that the Suikoden IP will continue to grow and expand in the future.

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster draws its foundation from the Japan-exclusive Genso Suikoden 1 & 2 collection released for the PlayStation Portable in 2006. This collection offered Japanese players enhanced versions of the two classic JRPGs, an opportunity that was missed by fans worldwide. Now, Konami is bringing this collection to modern platforms with significant updates.

Visually, the remaster aims to enhance the games' appeal with rich HD textures for background illustrations, making the environments more immersive and detailed. From the majestic castles of Gregminster to the war-torn landscapes of Suikoden 2, players can expect beautifully drawn locales. The pixel art of the original sprites is being polished while preserving the essence of the original design.

Players can also enjoy a Gallery featuring the game's music and cutscenes, along with an event viewer that allows them to relive memorable moments. These features are accessible from the title selection screen.

The HD remaster addresses several issues from the PSP collection. Notably, Suikoden 2’s infamous Luca Blight cutscene, which was shortened in the PSP version due to its perceived extremity, will be restored to its full length.

Moreover, to align with contemporary standards, certain character dialogues have been adjusted. For instance, Richmond, the private investigator from Suikoden 2, no longer smokes in this remastered version, reflecting Japan's nationwide indoor and outdoor smoking bans.
