I'm well aware that this Dead Rails class tier list might stir up some debate, but sometimes you've got to ruffle a few feathers. It's hard to argue against the Vampire's prowess, even with the recent updates, and the Survivalist has surged ahead significantly. However, it's disappointing to see the Zombie class still struggling, unable to benefit from Snake Oil. While teamwork plays a role, it's not the focus here. Remember, it's all about enjoying the game with your friends, not just about min-maxing.

You might have guessed it already—these classes excel in raw damage output. The Survivalist and Vampire stand out, with the Ironclad also in the mix, but the top spots are undoubtedly occupied by:
| **Name** | **Cost** | **Info** |
| Survivalist | 75 | The Survivalist starts with a Tomahawk and becomes more formidable as your health decreases. Even at full health, you deal more damage than others, though that might be nerfed soon. This class is perfect for tackling tough enemies that don't go down easily. Other classes can manage, but none pack the punch the Survivalist brings to the table. |
| Vampire | 75 | The Vampire is all about speed and aggression. You move faster than a horse or a sprinting zombie, and your melee attacks are devastating—most zombies fall in three swings. However, sunlight is harmful, so you must stay in the shadows. The Vampire Knife you start with heals you with each hit, making survival a matter of maintaining constant pressure. |

Here, we find classes that are still excellent but may not excel in pure survival. They offer good damage and starting gear, though they're less effective for solo play. In my view, the Ironclad has significant potential.
| **Name** | **Cost** | **Info** |
| Ironclad | 100 | The Ironclad comes fully armored, making you much harder to kill but also slower by about 10%. It's not ideal for solo runs; you'll want a teammate to watch your back. In a team, shotguns are your best weapon, as you're built for close-quarters combat. |
| Cowboy | 50 | The Cowboy starts strong with a revolver, ammo, and a horse, making early-game fights easier and giving you the mobility to survive chaos, especially during Blood Moon nights. With the Game Pass, you can sell the revolver for extra cash to enhance your loadout. The price is a steal. |
| Priest | 75 | The Priest comes equipped with Crucifixes and Holy Water, which are powerful but unsellable. You're immune to lightning, making storms irrelevant. While not suited for solo play, the Priest excels in larger groups, providing crucial support with their throwables. |
| Arsonist | 20 | The Arsonist thrives in chaos, starting with Molotovs and a fire damage boost, ideal for clearing groups quickly. It's perfect for smaller areas where you can control the pace, and having a horse enhances the hit-and-run strategy. |

These classes are specialists, excelling in specific scenarios. The Doctor, for instance, offers great support at a low cost but isn't ideal for solo damage output. All three are invaluable in group settings.
| **Name** | **Cost** | **Info** |
| The Alamo | 50 | The Alamo is about defense, starting with Sheet Metal, Barbed Wire, and a helmet, perfect for fortifying the Train early on. Ideal for holding the line and slowing down enemy waves, it's effective when the pressure mounts. |
| Doctor | 15 | The Doctor provides essential healing and can revive teammates at half their health. It's one of the cheapest classes and incredibly valuable in group play. Keep the Doctor alive, as they can turn a potential wipe into a victory. Selling bandages and snake oil gives a $40 boost. |
| Miner | 15 | The Miner is perfect for resource gathering and nighttime exploration, equipped with a helmet and a Pickaxe that breaks ore quickly. They start with some Coal, making them ideal for material collection, despite their limited combat prowess. |

These classes offer good utility but are less effective for solo play. The Conductor is essential for teams, while the Horse class is more of a novelty.
| **Name** | **Cost** | **Info** |
| Conductor | 50 | The Conductor controls the Train, starting with Coal and reaching a top speed of 84, crucial for escaping danger quickly. However, they lack a melee weapon at spawn, making them vulnerable initially. Ensure they're protected as they keep the team moving. They no longer suffer health penalties, making them slightly less fragile. |
| Horse | Unlockable through the Horsing Around gamemode | The Horse Class turns you into a horse, unlocked through the 2025 April Fools "Horsing Around" event. It offers standard horse stats but comes with a full-sized hitbox, making navigation through tight spaces challenging. You can ride other players but not the train or other horses. |
| High Roller | 50 | The High Roller earns 1.5x money from bags, perfect for a quick cash boost. However, this also makes you more likely to be struck by lightning during storms. It's a high-risk, high-reward choice for those looking to gear up fast. |

Every list has its bottom, and these classes are at the base. The default class is straightforward but offers nothing special, ideal for beginners. Zombies, on the other hand, are severely underpowered.
| **Name** | **Cost** | **Info** |
| None | Free | The None class is the default, starting with just a shovel and whatever you can scavenge. It's a blank slate with no perks or drawbacks, perfect for saving up bonds and experimenting with playstyles before committing to a class. |
| Zombie | 75 | The Zombie can heal by feeding on corpses and slip past enemies due to its undead nature. However, it can't use Bandages or Snake Oil. While it has some sustainability in corpse-heavy areas, it's currently underpowered and not recommended. |
