In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there's no direct sprint button; your character will naturally transition into a sprint after a few steps of running. While sprinting is a quick way to move around, navigating the vast battlefields to reach and rescue other officers can be challenging and time-consuming.

This is where your trusty horse becomes invaluable. You can summon your horse at any time, whether you're exploring the overworld or engaged in battle. Horses not only speed up your travel but also allow you to execute hit-and-run tactics effectively. Unlocking your first horse is straightforward and free. During Chapter 1, after you've completed the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld as you journey towards the Battle Of Guangzong. You'll find this merchant northeast of Wan Castle, but before you reach the camp, standing next to his horse. Simply engage in conversation with him, and he'll gift you the horse, which will be automatically equipped.

To summon your horse and mount it instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're playing on a console, or press the 'V' key on a keyboard.

Leveling up your horse is essential for enhancing its abilities. Your horse gains XP whenever you complete missions or main story battles with it equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it. Note that your horse does not earn XP from Skirmishes. Missions, marked by a red diamond with a soldier icon, are the medium-length engagements where your horse can earn XP. The amount of XP your horse earns depends on the battle's duration, how much you ride, and how often you use your horse to charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it unlocks unique buffs at various intervals, which differ for each horse.

While your first horse is automatically equipped, you'll have opportunities to acquire and switch to other horses. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, which is the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse comes with unique perks, and some are faster or more advantageous than others, so it's wise to consider switching when you acquire a new one. To obtain new horses, you must maximize the peace level of a region, after which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
