Plunderstorm has made an exciting return to World of Warcraft, bringing with it a fresh wave of features and rewards for players to dive into. This pirate-themed battle royale mode, set in the Arathi Highlands, pits 60 players against each other in a thrilling fight for supremacy and loot. Launched on January 14 after a brief delay, Plunderstorm is back to keep fans entertained as they await the arrival of Patch 11.1. While there's no official end date announced yet, players can expect to enjoy this mode for at least a month.

This second run of Plunderstorm introduces several new elements to the game. The battlefield now boasts revamped points of interest and mobs, with non-elite enemies respawning shortly after being defeated, ensuring a constant supply of plunder until the Storm engulfs them. Fast travel horses have been added to the map, enabling players to swiftly move across the terrain to find chests, elite enemies, and opponents. Additionally, the in-game map now displays zone threat levels, indicating areas where fights are more frequent, and allows players to choose their initial deployment zones at the start of each game.

  • Offensive
    • Aura of Zealotry – Passively increase movement speed for your allies. Cast to consecrate the ground, damaging enemies periodically. While in consecration, gain enhanced movement speed and melee attacks.
    • Celestial Barrage – Call down a barrage of moonbeams, damaging enemies. This spell can be empowered to greatly increase its range.
  • Utility
    • Call Galefeather – Call forth Galefeather to knock enemies back with heavy winds for a short duration.
    • Void Tear – Tear into the Void, placing a Void mark. Recast Void Tear to instantly return to the mark, damaging and slowing enemies. The recast can be performed instantly while casting any spell without interruption.

  • Earthbreaker – Cooldown decreased by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Slicing Winds – Cooldown increased by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Star Bomb – Cooldown decreased by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Storm Archon – Cooldown decreased by 2 seconds at all ranks.
  • Toxic Smackerel – Cooldown increased by 1.5 seconds at all ranks.

Players can now collect and upgrade various new spells in Plunderstorm. Offensive spells like Aura of Zealotry offer a passive speed boost to the player and their team, and allow casting Consecrate to create damaging zones and enhance ally speed and melee attacks. Celestial Barrage delivers a chargeable line attack. On the utility front, Call Galefeather summons an eagle to knock back enemies, while Void Tear provides teleportation to a marked spot, damaging and slowing enemies along the way. Adjustments to existing spell cooldowns and a new UI for swapping and picking up abilities enhance the gameplay experience.

A new Plunderstorm Practice Lobby has been introduced, offering players a space to test out abilities, adjust keybindings and transmogs, and socialize. From the Practice Lobby, players can queue for games or access the Plunderstore, the hub for obtaining Plunderstorm rewards. This can also be done from the login screen and within retail WoW via the PvP interface.

One notable absence this time around is the Trios mode, which allowed players to team up in groups of three. It's unclear why Blizzard chose not to include Trios in this iteration of Plunderstorm, but fans hope it will make a return before the mode concludes.
