Composer's New JRPG Demo Now Free on Steam

Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio Composer Leads New Tactical Stealth RPG
Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest
Exciting news for fans of tactical RPGs: Guns Undarkness is set to release a free demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This highly anticipated game is spearheaded by Shoji Meguro, the renowned composer behind the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Collaborating with him are the talented Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshinov and the dynamic rapper Lotus Juice, known for his contributions to Persona 3.
Shoji Meguro, a veteran at Atlus since 1995, has crafted the memorable soundtracks for the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, he ventured into indie game development while still contributing to Atlus projects. His latest endeavor, Guns Undarkness, is a sci-fi stealth action JRPG developed under the banner of Kodansha Game Creators Lab.
First showcased at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021, Guns Undarkness successfully met its Kickstarter goals in 2022. Gamers can get a taste of the action with the free demo, available starting February 24, 2025, during Steam Next Fest. Following the demo, the game will be accessible in early access later in 2025.
Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona
According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is described as a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game unfolds in a world teetering on the edge of destruction. Players assume the role of a member of a private military company, embarking on missions with allies to unravel the world's secrets and save humanity.
The gameplay of Guns Undarkness is divided into two key components: stealth and battle sections. During stealth phases, players must navigate environments undetected, gaining a strategic advantage when engaging enemies. Combat shifts to a turn-based system where players command their characters, utilizing a variety of firearms to emerge victorious.
The Guns Undarkness demo promises approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial covering basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and strategies for the game's early stages. The full game is slated for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, offering around 10 hours of playtime on PC. While an exact release date remains under wraps, fans eagerly await further updates.
