Sony isn't worried about losing PS5 players to PC gaming, according to a company executive. This statement comes from a recent report detailing Sony's PC publishing strategy. Despite releasing first-party titles on PC, starting with Horizon Zero Dawn in 2020 and accelerating after the acquisition of Nixxes Software in 2021, Sony sees minimal risk of PS5 sales being significantly impacted.

PS5 sales, at 65.5 million units by November 2024, are comparable to the PS4's performance within its first four years. Sony attributes the slight difference to PS5 supply chain issues during the pandemic, rather than competition from PC ports. This strong PS5 performance reinforces their belief that PC releases don't significantly detract from console sales.

Looking ahead, Sony plans a more aggressive PC porting strategy, aiming to reduce the time between PS5 and PC releases. Marvel's Spider-Man 2, launching on PC just 15 months after its PS5 debut, exemplifies this shift. This contrasts with the two-year-plus exclusivity previously given to titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Further bolstering the PC gaming market, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also hits Steam in January 2025. However, several high-profile PS5 exclusives remain unannounced for PC, including Gran Turismo 7, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, and the Demon's Souls remake.
