Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio took a moment to reminisce about one of their landmark projects: the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim over a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, The Alters takes a more passionate and frequently humorous approach, focusing on the trials of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these contrasting tones, the developers stress a deep-rooted connection between the two titles.

Though vastly different in setting and mood, both games are united by the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players confront the brutal realities of war within a besieged city, managing resources and overcoming daily challenges to keep their group alive. Conversely, The Alters frames survival as a relentless race against time, where players must continuously move their mobile base to escape the destructive path of an unforgiving sun that turns everything to dust.

Both titles challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into hostile environments in pursuit of scarce resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team composed of alternate versions of the main character.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, offering players an immersive experience across multiple platforms.
