Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its new mainstream lineup of 2025 gaming laptops, known as the "Alienware Aurora." The first 16" models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, distinct from the desktop model, is the more budget-friendly option, priced at $1,949.99 and equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP. The higher-end Alienware Aurora 16X, priced at $2,299.99, boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP. These models are set to start shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both laptops can be pre-ordered with an RTX 5060 GPU, although no shipping estimate is available as the RTX 5060 has yet to be released.

Despite their unassuming exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are powered by gaming-capable components and feature a robust Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter due to more efficient components, including a lower voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. In contrast, the Aurora 16X is slightly thicker and heavier to accommodate enhanced cooling, offering a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with a maximum 115W TGP.

Compared to the new Alienware Area-51 laptop, which starts at over $3,000, both Aurora models are significantly more affordable. They also offer better portability, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and 30% thinner than the Area-51 16" laptop. It's unlikely that prices will see a significant drop soon, especially considering the anticipated rise in Nvidia GPU prices, as reported by Tom's Hardware.

For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. The $300 price increase over the Aurora 16 brings substantial upgrades that justify the additional cost. The key enhancements include:
