Free Orpheus or Side with the Emperor?
This choice hinges on player priorities. The Emperor warns that freeing Orpheus risks party members becoming Illithids. Within the Astral Prism, the choice is stark: liberate Orpheus or let the Emperor absorb his power.
Siding with the Emperor: This leads to Orpheus' demise, as the Emperor absorbs his knowledge. Lae'zel and Karlach may disapprove, impacting their personal quests. While it ensures victory over the Netherbrain, it might alienate fans of these characters.
Freeing Orpheus: Freeing Orpheus aligns him against the Netherbrain, aided by the Githyanki. However, a party member might transform into a Mind Flayer. Interestingly, Orpheus will even offer to become a Mind Flayer himself to save his people.
In short: choose the Emperor to avoid becoming a Mind Flayer; choose Orpheus to risk it. The Emperor's choice might cause Lae'zel's defection and force Karlach's return to Avernus.
Moral Considerations:
The "good" choice depends on player values, but loyalty is key. Orpheus' lineage makes him the rightful Githyanki ruler, opposing Vlaakith's tyranny. A Githyanki player might naturally side with him. However, following Voss and Lae'zel's demands might seem overly forceful. The Gith prioritize self-preservation above all else.
