The anticipation surrounding Abby's debut in The Last of Us Season 2 has been palpable, but few expected Kaitlyn Dever's unforeseen CGI requirement—courtesy of a spider bite (cringe).

Yet, that's precisely what unfolded. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dever revealed that during early Fireflies scenes, the production team had to digitally conceal a gruesome, oozing bite mark sustained off-camera.

"It appears in my first Fireflies episode," Dever admitted. "During a break, I mistook a spider bite for a pimple—until it swelled alarmingly."

"This wasn't just swollen—it was actively seeping," she continued. "The VFX team worked magic. The scar remains, but onscreen, it's invisible."

Dever also reflected on channeling raw emotion for that pivotal chalet scene. Tragically, she filmed it mere days after her mother's cancer-related passing.

"I flew back three days post-funeral. By day four, we shot the Fireflies confrontation," she recalled. "Grief warps memory—watching it now feels like seeing it fresh."

HBO reports staggering success: global viewership surpassed 90 million post-Season 1. While Season 2's finale drew 3.7 million U.S. viewers—a drop from its 5.3-million premiere—Warner Bros anticipates holiday-delayed streams will boost numbers.

Notably, Season 1's finale holds the record at 8.2 million viewers, leaving Season 2 room to grow.
