Choosing Your Faction in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Like its predecessors, Dynasty Warriors: Origins plunges players into the heart of ancient China's warfare, allowing them to fight alongside various warlords. However, a crucial decision awaits: choosing a faction. This guide explains the faction selection process.

Early Game Neutrality

The initial chapters feature the Wanderer, the player character, acting as an independent agent. They assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in various battles, participating in significant events such as the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate, without formally committing to any single faction.

The Crucial Choice: Chapter 3

Chapter 3 marks a turning point. Players are prompted to select a faction (Sun Jian, Liu Bei, or Cao Cao) before progressing. The game provides additional battles to aid in this decision.

Completing Faction Missions

To ally with a specific faction, players must complete a predetermined number of missions for that faction: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Upon completion, a new mission unlocks, forcing the player to choose a side. Only factions with completed missions will be selectable. However, players can complete missions for all factions before making their final choice.

Irreversible Commitment

The chosen faction becomes permanent. Players lose access to side quests and bond-building opportunities with officers from the unchosen factions, potentially impacting gameplay difficulty. For example, allying with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer commanding officers, might limit early skill point acquisition through side quests.

Multiple Playthroughs Recommended

Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, players are encouraged to create multiple save files, allowing them to replay the game with different allegiances.
