In a February 13, 2025 IGN interview, Civilization VII lead designer Ed Beach addressed the omission of several familiar civilizations and leaders, including Gandhi. He stated that Firaxis hasn't forgotten past favorites, acknowledging player concerns about the absence of nations like Great Britain.

Beach explained that the decision to exclude certain civilizations, such as Great Britain and India, stemmed from the sheer number of popular choices. To introduce fresh and exciting options, some established civilizations had to be omitted from the initial launch. He emphasized that Firaxis considers the long-term picture when adding new leaders and civilizations, leaving the door open for Gandhi's eventual return.

Given the extensive DLC history of Civilization VI, Gandhi's inclusion in Civilization VII via DLC is highly probable. However, a precise release date remains unconfirmed.
