Expedition 33 Sells 2 Million Copies in 12 Days
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has reached a remarkable sales milestone, moving 2 million copies within just 12 days of release. This figure is a significant jump from the 1 million units sold only three days after launch.
It’s important to note that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched as a day-one title on Game Pass, alongside Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered. Achieving this sales record is a notable accomplishment for French studio Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive.

When Bethesda stealth-launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered alongside the release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, many assumed only one title would dominate. As it turned out, the market had room for both games to thrive.
According to Kepler, Oblivion’s release did not negatively impact Clair Obscur. In fact, the renewed buzz around RPGs created by Oblivion's launch ended up boosting interest in Clair Obscur as well.
Matt Handrahan, Senior Portfolio Manager at Kepler Interactive, explained in an interview with The Game Business: “We were always aware that Expedition 33 had its own distinct appeal. From my time in the press, I understood that Western-style RPGs and Japanese-style RPGs often attract different segments of players. I knew many who loved The Elder Scrolls but weren't necessarily into Final Fantasy, and the reverse was also true.
“When our launch arrived, we already had strong momentum and felt sure we could hold our own. Other factors, like our pricing and inclusion in Game Pass, meant we expected significant interest. We were confident—and everything went as well as we could have hoped. Being close to Oblivion's release didn’t hurt us. If anything, it helped spotlight high-quality RPGs that week and got everyone talking about the genre.”
