Codemasters Halts Future Rally Game Development
Codemasters has announced that no further expansions will be released for 2023's EA Sports WRC, signaling that the team has "reached the end of the road" with the game. In addition, the studio has confirmed a "pause" on development plans for future rally titles. This announcement was made via EA.com, marking a significant moment for the veteran UK racing studio.

Codemasters has been a leader in rally video games for nearly three decades, starting with the iconic Colin McRae Rally in 1998. This pioneering rally simulation launched a series of successful and critically acclaimed racing games. After Colin McRae's death in 2007, the series transitioned from his name to Dirt. 2009's Dirt 2, also known as Colin McRae: Dirt 2 in Europe and other PAL regions, marked a significant shift, which was further refined into a hardcore simulation with 2015's Dirt Rally.
2023's EA Sports WRC was the first Codemasters rally game to feature an official WRC license since 2002's Colin McRae Rally 3.
