Devolver Digital Boldly Launches Game on GTA 6 Release Day
Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will hit the shelves on May 26, 2026. In a playful twist, indie game publisher Devolver Digital has declared its intention to launch a new game on the very same day. This move showcases Devolver Digital's characteristic cheeky marketing, taking a humorous jab at what's poised to be the gaming event of 2026.
On X/Twitter, Devolver Digital confirmed their plan with a witty post: "You can’t escape us. May 26, 2026 it is then." This announcement follows their earlier pledge to release a game coinciding with Rockstar's long-anticipated GTA 6 release date. It seems Devolver Digital is set on making a bold statement by directly competing with one of the most eagerly awaited titles in gaming history.

Devolver Digital boasts a rich portfolio of smaller-scale yet highly acclaimed titles such as Hotline Miami, Enter the Gungeon, The Messenger, Katana Zero, and Cult of the Lamb. The mystery title slated for May 26, 2026, could either be a sequel to one of these popular games or an entirely new project. While the company has several upcoming releases, including Baby Steps and Stick It to the Stickman before the end of 2025, and Enter the Gungeon 2 and Human Fall Flat 2 expected in 2026, it's clear that the latter will not be vying for attention on the same day as GTA 6. Developer No Brakes Games has explicitly stated:
We can confirm that Human Fall Flat 2 will NOT be releasing on May 26, 2026 https://t.co/zl3GbjSmia

With more than a year until launch, Grand Theft Auto 6 is already shaping up to be a monumental release. It marks Rockstar's first mainline entry in their iconic sandbox series since 2013, and fans are eager to get their hands on it from day one. Meanwhile, Devolver Digital is carving out its own niche with this daring strategy, aiming to capture a piece of the spotlight in true Devolver Digital fashion. We'll have to wait and see what their mystery title will be.
