Long before Fortnite became a global battle royale sensation, it first launched as a PVE cooperative shooter under the title Save the World. In this original mode, players teamed up to fend off hordes of zombie-like Husks in an action-packed survival experience.

Now, Fortnite is circling back to its cooperative roots with the launch of Lego Fortnite Expeditions, a brand-new mission-based PVE mode designed for up to four players. Drawing inspiration from both the game's popular Lego-themed gameplay and the tactical teamwork seen in titles like *Helldivers*, Expeditions offers a fresh yet familiar twist on Fortnite’s evolving gameplay ecosystem.

How Lego Fortnite Expeditions Works

Players begin their journey at the Academy hub, where they can select from a variety of combat missions set across three distinct locations. Completing these missions contributes to global Team Projects that unlock shared buffs and new mission types available to all players. Between missions, you can return to the Academy to take on Assignments given by other iconic Fortnite characters.

Three Unique Classes at Launch

• Shadow Caller: This class allows flight, ranged explosive attacks, and the ability to enter Shadow Form for quick escapes.
• Hunter: Equipped with the Bull's-eye Blade, which marks enemies and increases damage output while improving accuracy for the entire team.
• Rift Ripper: Capable of warping around the battlefield, deploying rift crystals, and providing class-specific buffs.

A Permanent Addition to Fortnite

Epic Games has confirmed that Expeditions will be a permanent addition to Fortnite, making it the third major Lego-inspired experience following *Lego Odyssey* and *Lego Brick Life*. Unlike those previous modes, however, Expeditions will integrate directly with the overarching Battle Royale storyline, featuring the same theme and antagonist.

Story Integration and Crossovers

At launch, players will face off against Mask Maker Daigo and his forces, while joining forces with well-known Battle Royale heroes like Jonesy and Hope. A recently released trailer also teased the inclusion of the current season’s branding—Super—and a major crossover character: Superman. This suggests that future seasons of Expeditions may continue to align with the evolving themes of Battle Royale.

New Season and Modes

Fortnite is currently deep into its superhero-themed season, which kicked off after the dramatic destruction of the Star Wars Death Star. This week brings even more excitement, including the debut of a new 32-player battle royale format called Blitz Royale, optimized for fast-paced mobile gameplay sessions.

Launch Date

Both Blitz Royale and Lego Fortnite Expeditions are scheduled to go live starting tomorrow, June 18.
