In a recent episode of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is coming to the Switch 2.

Intergrade is the enhanced PlayStation 5 version of the 2020 PS4 title Final Fantasy VII Remake, the initial installment in a trilogy that reimagines the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG. This upgraded release features improved graphics and lighting over the PS4 original and includes the Intermission DLC, focusing on the spirited ninja Yuffie's adventures in Midgar.

Currently available on PS5 and PC, Hamaguchi explained that the Switch 2's advanced capabilities make a port feasible. "Thanks to the power of the Switch 2, we can now render Midgal at full spec," he said.

"Having the option to play this game handheld on the Switch 2 means you can enjoy it during your commute," Hamaguchi added, noting that its portability will also make it simpler to share and discuss the game with others.

The Switch 2 version will also integrate GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real time. "I'm thrilled to see this game on a portable device," Hamaguchi expressed, adding, "I'm optimistic about forging a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand."

While only Intergrade has been officially announced for Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi concluded by saying, "I hope players are excited to experience the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2," hinting that Rebirth and the trilogy's final chapter may follow.

It's worth noting that the Final Fantasy franchise began on Nintendo consoles before moving to the CD-ROM-based PlayStation for Final Fantasy VII, the first 3D entry. With this remake, it appears FFVII will complete its journey back to Nintendo hardware.
