Gambit: Channing Tatum's Lost '30s Rom-Com Superhero Film
Lizzy Caplan, the actress slated to star opposite Channing Tatum in the canceled Gambit movie, recently revealed its unique concept to Business Insider. She described the film as having "a really cool idea," a "30s kind of screwball romantic comedy set in that world." This aligns with producer Simon Kinberg's 2018 statement to IGN, where he described the planned vibe as a "romantic or sex comedy," fitting with Gambit's character as a "hustler and a womanizer."
Caplan confirmed her involvement, stating that she'd signed on and even held meetings with Tatum before the project's demise. "We got down the road, we were gonna shoot it," she said. "I think there was a start date.” The film's cancellation followed the 2019 Disney-Fox merger, leaving Tatum reportedly "traumatized" by the experience after his long-fought attempt to bring the fan-favorite X-Men character to the screen. His surprise cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine offered a brief, albeit unexpected, resolution.
