Gears of War: Reloaded Launch Date Revealed

Gears of War, a flagship Xbox franchise, has long been a Microsoft exclusive. On May 6, Xbox announced via Twitter (X) that Gears of War: Reloaded will launch across platforms, including PS5, on August 26.

Xbox is doubling down on its strategy to bring exclusive titles to broader audiences. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer emphasized the company’s commitment to multiplatform releases, stating, “We cherish our platform and hardware, but we won’t limit access to the incredible games our studios create.”

This approach suggests that the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day might also launch simultaneously on multiple platforms, including PS5. However, Xbox has not yet confirmed details about other exclusives, leaving fans eager for further updates.

Enhanced Remaster with Native Optimization

The announcement of Reloaded caught fans off guard, given the 2015 remaster, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. In a May 5 Xbox Wire post, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump outlined what players can expect from the new release.

He shared, “As we near the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re celebrating the legacy of this franchise—its stories, connections, and unforgettable moments. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re inviting a wider audience to experience it.”

Reloaded delivers significant performance upgrades over the 2015 version. While Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p and 30fps in campaign mode and 60fps in multiplayer, Reloaded boasts 4K resolution at 60fps for the campaign and 120fps for multiplayer. It also features remastered 4K assets, enhanced textures, improved visual effects, better shadows and reflections, and more.

The Xbox Wire post noted, “Players will enjoy immediate access to all post-launch content at no extra cost, including an additional campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full lineup of classic characters and cosmetics unlocked through progression.”

Those who own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the announcement will receive Reloaded as a free upgrade. Eligible Xbox accounts will get a code for the upgrade via direct message before the launch.

Gears of War: Reloaded launches on August 26, priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will be available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
