Rockstar's revamped Grand Theft Auto 5 has received a lukewarm response on Steam since its March debut.

Launched on March 4, Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced holds a 'mixed' user rating on Steam, with only 54% of 19,772 reviews marked as positive.

For comparison, the original GTA 5 on Steam, now delisted at Rockstar's request and no longer searchable on Valve's platform, boasts a 'very positive' user rating.

Currently, GTA 5 Enhanced is the lowest-rated GTA title on Steam, outpacing Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition, which has 66% positive reviews.

GTA 5 Enhanced offers PC players a free upgrade from the original, incorporating features exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of GTA Online, such as new vehicles, performance enhancements at Hao’s Special Works, animal interactions, and the option to purchase a GTA+ Membership. It also includes upgraded graphics and faster load times. Existing GTA 5 PC owners can transition their Story Mode and Online progress to this version at no cost.

Despite these enhancements, the account migration process has frustrated many players. Issues with transferring accounts dominate the 'most helpful' negative reviews.

"The GTA Online profile linked to this Rockstar Games account cannot be migrated at this time," one upset player wrote. "I'm not abandoning nearly 700 hours of progress to start over just for a slight upgrade."

"This feels like a downgrade from the original version. I'll stick with the legacy edition until the next game releases," another review stated.

"Rockstar's arbitrary restrictions on account migration are unacceptable, and their support offers no solutions," another player commented.

"I can’t transfer either of my accounts," a review read. "Rockstar’s support is useless. After a decade, I’m not restarting my Online progress for minor graphical tweaks."

Despite these setbacks, GTA 5 Enhanced remains a top-played title on Steam, hitting a peak of 187,059 concurrent players since launch. However, its troubled release has raised concerns about the upcoming PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6, with fears that similar issues could mar its debut.

GTA 6 is set to launch in fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, excluding PC players. In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer addressed the delayed PC release, urging gamers to trust the studio's approach despite the controversy.
