Hyper Light Breaker Multiplayer Guide: Friends and Random Teams

Hyper Light Breaker, a 3D rogue-lite successor to Hyper Light Drifter, introduces a key multiplayer element. This guide details how to play cooperatively with friends and join public matches.

Playing with Friends in Hyper Light Breaker

To play co-op with friends, create a private multiplayer room. In the Cursed Outpost hub, interact with the counter to the left of Pherus Bit.

Select "Create Breaker Team" from the Multiplayer menu. Enable "Password Required" and set a password. Invite up to two friends via your platform's social features (PSN, Xbox, Steam supported). The game supports three-player teams.

Friends can join via the invitation or, if listed, directly from the "Join Breaker Team" menu using the password.

Random Online Matchmaking

For solo multiplayer, use the public matchmaking system. In the Multiplayer menu, choose "Join Breaker Team," then select "Join Random Public Breaker Team" at the bottom.

The game will find an available public team (no password required) and place you in their session. A short load screen will follow.

To leave a multiplayer session, return to the counter in the Cursed Outpost, open the Multiplayer menu, and select the "Disconnect" option (appearing only when in a session). Alternatively, simply quit the game.
