Imperia Online is a veteran mobile developer now celebrating its twentieth anniversary.

• The studio was established alongside the launch of its flagship title, Imperia Online
• In the years since, they have published and acquired numerous other titles, including the entire GameLabs portfolio

It is easy to underestimate just how young mobile gaming remains as a platform. Although the medium dates back to the late 2000s, modern smartphone gaming truly took off around 2015. Yet many studios currently active in this space boast extensive histories, and Imperia Online is a prime example of this longevity.

Marking two decades since its founding in 2005, Imperia Online might not be an instantly recognizable name to everyone, but you will likely know several titles from their library. Chief among these is Imperia Online itself; this MMO strategy game has been running for nearly as long as the studio exists.

Imperia Online also boasts a catalog of over 70 releases, some acquired from other developers. Notable additions include Siege: World War II, Crush Them All, and War Commander: Rogue Assault, along with their acquisition of the entire GameLabs developer portfolio.

While Imperia Online may lack cutting-edge graphics or trendy minigames like merge and match-three puzzles (features found elsewhere in their catalog), it has endured thanks to a dedicated fanbase that has stuck with the game through the years.

The title's lasting success also highlights the deep history present within mobile gaming. It serves as a reminder that while high turnover rates and fleeting trends dominate the current landscape, some developers continue to operate steadily and loyally in the background.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of excellent new releases filling various gaps in the market. Who knows? Perhaps we will be writing about those titles ten years from now as well.
