Iron Man Villain Returns in MCU's Vision Quest

Marvel is bringing back a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man, for its upcoming series, Vision Quest. Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the leader of the Afghan terrorist group that held Tony Stark captive in the film's opening sequence, almost two decades after his initial appearance. This marks a return for the character, last seen in the opening 30 minutes of the 2008 film. Similar to Samuel Sterns' reappearance in Captain America: Brave New World, Hamidmi al-Wazar's return in Vision Quest, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, is a surprising development. The series currently has no confirmed release date.

While initially portrayed as the head of a generic terrorist group, Hamidmi al-Wazar's backstory was significantly expanded in Phase 4. The group he led was later revealed to be connected to the Ten Rings, a connection hinted at subtly in earlier films. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings significantly expanded on this lore, retroactively establishing Hamidmi al-Wazar as a Ten Rings commander. This connection suggests a potential link between Vision Quest and the events of Shang-Chi.

Alternatively, Vision Quest might be exploring lesser-known elements of the MCU, similar to Deadpool & Wolverine's approach to the scrapped Fox Marvel universe. The series will also feature the return of James Spader as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Details about the show remain scarce.
