Dramatic Player Count Decline for Monster Hunter Wilds

From Over 1 Million Players to Just 40k

After a record-breaking launch as Capcom's fastest-selling game earlier this year, Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) has experienced a significant drop-off in its player base. Three months post-release, concurrent player numbers have sharply decreased according to tracking data.

Monster Hunter content creator Zenny highlighted that since May, MH Wilds' concurrent players have halved, bringing it closer to its predecessor MH World's numbers. SteamDB records show MH Wilds with a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players, while MH World maintains 26,479 concurrent players currently.

Interestingly, during MH World's third month on Steam, it maintained over 100,000 concurrent players - more than double MH Wilds' current standing. Players attribute this decline to a lack of substantial endgame content despite the release of Title Update 1. The upcoming Summer Title Update 2, promising new monsters and events, might help revitalize the player base.

Potential Street Fighter Crossover Event

Capcom may be looking to boost engagement through a collaboration with their fighting game franchise. On May 19th, the official Monster Hunter Twitter account posted a cryptic image featuring a paw mark in Street Fighter 6's signature urban art style.

While unconfirmed, this wouldn't be the first Monster Hunter x Street Fighter crossover. MH World previously featured Ryu and Sakura armor sets, special combat moves like Hadoken and Shoryuken, and even a Chun-Li costume for the Handler.

This would mark MH Wilds' debut collaboration event. The franchise has a history of successful crossovers, including partnerships with Devil May Cry, Sonic the Hedgehog, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Assassin's Creed, and Mega Man in previous Monster Hunter titles.

Despite the current player decline, expectations remain high for future content updates to reinvigorate the community.
