MultiVersus, the Warner Bros. platform fighter, is ending its run. Player First Games announced that Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, with online services ceasing on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This announcement was made via a blog post on the game's website.

The studio confirmed that while online play will end, offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain available through local and training modes. The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support in a heartfelt message.

Real-money transactions have already been discontinued, but players can still utilize Gleamium and character tokens to acquire in-game items until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

This closure follows reports of MultiVersus' underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million writedown for the company's games sector. This financial setback, along with the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, reportedly contributed to the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad. CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels highlighted MultiVersus' poor performance in a November financial call: "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline.”

Despite the impending closure, Season 5 will include new content, notably the addition of Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar rewards) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass) as playable characters.
