MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the impending closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, following the completion of its fifth season. The game's official channels confirmed the shutdown date of May 30, 2025.

Season 5: The Final Chapter

The final season, commencing February 4, 2025, will introduce Aquaman and Lola Bunny as playable characters, both unlockable through gameplay. All new content will be accessible within this final season. Post-Season 5, the game will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). The reasons for the shutdown remain unannounced.

Offline Play Persists

A silver lining for dedicated players: offline local play will remain accessible. Players can download the latest version of MultiVersus between February 4th and May 30th to retain access to this feature, allowing solo or multiplayer matches against AI or friends. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving purchased and earned content.

End of Transactions

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Any remaining in-game currency (Gleamium) can be used until the game's official closure.

A Short but Action-Packed Run

Launched in July 2022 as a free-to-play title, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity, drawing comparisons to Super Smash Bros. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced features like rollback netcode and a new PvE mode, but the game faced ongoing challenges, including technical issues and player count decline.

The game will conclude its run with 35 playable characters, leaving a legacy despite its shorter-than-expected lifespan. Developer Player First Games expressed gratitude for the community's support. MultiVersus will remain available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
