This revelation appeared on the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, introduced during Nintendo Direct March 2025. No further movie details were shared.
Gaming icon Shigeru Miyamoto broke the news as a surprise announcement during the showcase. This comprehensive mobile app offers exclusive benefits for dedicated Nintendo enthusiasts.
The Nintendo Today app functions as a daily calendar and news aggregator, delivering real-time updates directly to players. Miyamoto explained that after next week's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans can check the app for continuous updates, with fresh news arriving daily.
The Zelda movie release date already generated significant buzz, prompting fans to download the app anticipating similar major announcements. Notably, Nintendo's news app broke the Zelda scoop before their official social media channels.
Nintendo and Sony Pictures initially announced the live-action Zelda adaptation in November 2023, with Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) directing and Avi Arad alongside Miyamoto producing.
While plot details remain scarce, director Wes Ball aims for a "live-action Miyazaki" approach, referencing Studio Ghibli's legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. Ball emphasizes creating a "serious" and realistic adaptation, planning minimal motion capture for this grounded fantasy film.
