Nintendo Fights Switch 2 Scalping
Nintendo is proactively addressing potential Nintendo Switch 2 launch shortages, aiming to outmaneuver scalpers. Following the release of its latest financial results, President Shuntaro Furukawa stated, "We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date (regarding scalpers and the like). We are making preparations." This follows previous statements emphasizing sufficient production to meet demand as the primary defense against scalping. Unlike the original Switch's 2017 launch, which faced supply constraints, Furukawa assures that the semiconductor shortages impacting production previously have been resolved. He also downplayed the impact of consumers delaying Switch purchases in anticipation of the Switch 2, attributing the recent sales decline to other factors. Nintendo plans a Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd, along with hands-on events globally, to further showcase the upcoming console. Continued support for the original Switch is also planned, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for 2025 release.
