Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs
Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change came after import tariffs introduced by President Trump caused financial markets to plummet, and the ripple effects have crossed borders. Nintendo Canada has also confirmed that pre-orders in their region will be delayed, dashing hopes of securing a console through a Canadian connection.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a release to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup. "Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes a statement Nintendo of America gave to IGN on April 4, although the Canadian version omits any specific mention of the new tariffs. "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged."
As the original pre-order date looms tomorrow, there's still no clear timeline on when eager fans can start their pre-order frenzy, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced price of $449.99.
In other news, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already launched in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers have jumped on the opportunity, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly higher than the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
