Palworld, the immensely popular creature-catching survival game, has released a significant update, version 0.5.0, which introduces crossplay functionality across all platforms. This update enhances the gaming experience by allowing players to connect and play together seamlessly, regardless of their chosen platform.

One of the standout features of this update is the introduction of the Global Palbox, which enables players to store Pal data and transfer Pals between different worlds. Additionally, a new Dimensional Pal Storage system has been added, boasting a capacity ten times that of the regular Palbox. This storage system is not only accessible to guild members but can also be configured for private use, offering players flexibility in managing their resources.

The update also brings a cosmetic armor system, allowing players to change their character's appearance without impacting armor stats through the Antique Dresser. This feature, along with the newly added Photo Mode accessible from the Pal Command Wheel, allows for more personalized and creative gameplay experiences. Players can now take stunning screenshots without the UI obstructing their view.

Further enhancing the gameplay, the update introduces a Drafting Table, which enables players to combine low-rarity blueprints to create higher-rarity ones. Dedicated servers for Mac users have also been included, ensuring a broader player base can enjoy a smooth gaming experience.

Developer Pocketpair has announced plans for dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version, although these will be released at a later date. Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has attracted an impressive 32 million players. The studio has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, promising an "ending scenario" and additional new content to keep players engaged.

Launched on Steam for $30 and included in Game Pass on Xbox and PC, Palworld shattered sales and concurrent player number records upon release. The overwhelming success led Pocketpair to form Palworld Entertainment with Sony, aiming to expand the IP and bring the game to PS5.

However, the game's success has not been without controversy. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seeking an injunction and damages. In response, Pocketpair has adjusted certain gameplay mechanics, such as how players summon Pals, and is prepared to defend its position in court.
