What Is a Cursed Object in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Objects, also known as "Cursed Possessions," are randomly generated items in Phasmophobia, appearing on various maps depending on game mode and settings. Activation requires locating and interacting with them within the location. Unlike standard equipment, Cursed Objects offer powerful, albeit risky, advantages. Their abilities, such as pinpointing the ghost's favorite room or boosting your team, always come with a significant drawback. These drawbacks can range from rapid sanity loss and temporary blindness to triggering unexpectedly difficult "cursed" hunts. Therefore, strategic use is paramount; sometimes, leaving them untouched is the wiser choice. Note that Cursed Objects won't appear at all difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

How All Cursed Objects Work in Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia currently features seven Cursed Objects, each with unique abilities and debilitating effects. A common thread is the substantial sanity drain they inflict on the user. Proximity to the user during activation significantly increases the chance of a "cursed hunt." These hunts mirror regular hunts but ignore sanity levels, occurring even immediately after a standard hunt, and lasting 20 seconds longer.

The following table details each Cursed Object and its mechanics:

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot CardsTen randomly generated cards offering buffs, debuffs, or increased ghost activity. Certain cards, like "Death," can trigger a Cursed Hunt.
Ouija BoardAllows direct communication with the ghost. Specific questions ("Hide and Seek") or shattering the board trigger Cursed Hunts.
Haunted MirrorReveals the ghost's favorite room. Shattering the mirror triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Music BoxReveals the ghost's location via a special event. Prolonged use triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Summoning CircleSummons and traps the ghost. Always triggers a Cursed Hunt unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is present.
Voodoo DollForces ghost interactions via pins. Pushing the heart pin triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Monkey PawGrants wishes influencing the ghost or environment. Certain wishes can severely hinder the player.

Best Cursed Objects to Use in Phasmophobia

Choosing the right Cursed Object depends on game mode and difficulty. Some are inherently safer and more beneficial.

Haunted Mirror

The Haunted Mirror offers the best risk-reward ratio. It quickly reveals the ghost's room, aiding in efficient evidence gathering. However, prolonged use lowers sanity, and shattering it triggers a Cursed Hunt.

Ouija Board

A reliable option, the Ouija Board directly reveals the ghost's location and, importantly, the bone's location for "Perfect Investigation" bonuses.

Voodoo Doll

Useful for triggering ghost interactions to gather evidence, but avoid the heart pin to prevent a Cursed Hunt.
