Among the most eagerly awaited releases I covered last year, one that truly caught my attention was the upcoming Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage. The original Pirates Outlaws was a stylish, swashbuckling roguelike deckbuilder that made a splash when the genre was still relatively fresh. Now, its sequel is set to launch in Q3 of this year, promising to take players back to the high seas of New Elysia for another thrilling adventure.

In Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage, players can choose from a variety of characters, each with seven class options. This allows for a highly customizable experience where you can tailor your deck and even recruit an animal companion to enhance the strategic depth of your battles. The game introduces enhanced turn-based combat and a new card evolution tree, offering players an array of powerful tools to conquer the seas.

The sequel promises to be an expansive follow-up, with players able to navigate freely across the map. This freedom, combined with the myriad permutations and combinations of cards and characters, ensures a rich and varied gameplay experience. For those on PC, an upcoming Steam demo will provide the first opportunity to dive into Pirates Outlaws 2: Heritage.

However, one concern I have is the animations shown in the reveal trailer, which seemed a bit static. While fully animating the illustrations can be challenging, I'm hopeful that the final release will feature more dynamic effects when it arrives on mobile later this year.
