The eagerly awaited Ratatan gameplay trailer, unveiled during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, has given fans an exciting glimpse into the game's mechanics. Developed by Ratatan Works, this trailer showcases the game's thrilling rhythm roguelike action, reminiscent of its predecessor, Patapon. The footage features an intense battle against a giant boss crab, highlighting the game's dynamic combat.

Ratatan combines the excitement of rhythm games with engaging side-scrolling action, and introduces online co-op gameplay that supports up to 4 players. Players can command up to 100 characters in sprawling melee battles, adding depth and strategy to the experience. The game is being crafted by the creative minds behind Patapon, including creator Hiroyuki Kotani and original musician Kemmei Adachi. Ratatan's successful Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has already hit its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its release on various platforms.

Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025

Exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting hands-on experience: Ratatan's closed beta is scheduled to commence on February 27, 2025. According to a recent post on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared updates on the game's progress and upcoming milestones. The game has now surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received glowing reviews for the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo.

However, Ratatan will not be participating in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team is fully committed to refining the closed beta experience. The closed beta will initially include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 to be added during the test period, which will run for approximately a month. Sakajiri mentioned that details regarding the distribution of codes, the start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation continues to build for this spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series.
