The developer announced on Twitter/X that they've published the full source code for their 2013 roguelike hit. "A decade after Rogue Legacy's launch, we're releasing the source code publicly to foster learning," the studio stated, directing users to a GitHub repository containing all game scripts under a non-commercial license.

The code repository, maintained by Linux porter Ethan Lee (known for his work on Flotilla and other indie titles), has been met with widespread appreciation from the gaming community. This move provides aspiring developers with valuable insights into professional game architecture.

Beyond educational benefits, this open-sourcing initiative serves as a preservation measure - ensuring the game remains accessible even if removed from digital storefronts. The announcement attracted attention from Andrew Borman, Digital Preservation Director at Rochester's Museum of Play, who proposed a formal preservation partnership.

While the repository contains all localized text, visual assets and music remain under copyright protection. "Our goal is education, inspiration, and community tool development," Cellar Door Games clarified. "For any usage beyond the specified license terms, please contact us directly."
