She remains a steadfast supporter, but Scarlett Johansson seems to have closed the chapter on her Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances for the foreseeable future — so definitively that she recently requested the removal of an executive producer credit she received for Thunderbolts\*.

"I requested the credit removal because I wasn't actually involved," the Black Widow star explained during a conversation with Thunderbolts\* actor David Harbour for Interview Magazine. When Harbour mentioned her producer credit (the interview occurred on the film's release day), Johansson admitted she hadn't even seen the completed movie yet. This revelation prompted her to clarify her non-involvement.

Harbour humorously teased, "Did you hate the film that much?" Johansson quickly countered: "No, you just wish that were true," before affirming her pride in the project's cast and crew.

IMDb listings now confirm Johansson's executive producer credit has indeed been removed from the film, which premiered earlier this month.

Speaking with Deadline, Johansson revealed she remains open to MCU collaborations — just not as an actor. "After producing Black Widow and helping shape Natasha and Yelena's story," she said, "I see ways to explore meaningful themes — human connection, family, disappointment — within this massive universe. Directing could be exciting."

The Thunderbolts\* marketing campaign made waves by rebranding the film as New Avengers post-release. Marvel extended this creative approach by blurring fiction and reality, framing the conflict between Sam Wilson's Avengers and the new team as an actual dispute.
