Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Serious Drama and Comedic Mayhem

RGG Studio promises a unique blend of intense drama and over-the-top humor in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment features a "more serious" Goro Majima, according to director Masayoshi Yokoyama, particularly at the story's outset.

However, the signature Like a Dragon humor isn't entirely absent. Producer Ryosuke Horii clarifies that while a "manly drama" forms the core narrative, showcasing Majima's determined pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forges, the game will still include its share of comedic detours. "The goofing off isn't the main point – there's a manly drama at the heart of it," Horii explains. "Of course, there are some crazy parts, but overall, it's a straightforward tale about a passionate man."

Horii emphasizes Majima's unique qualities, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, as the driving force behind this approach. The team aimed for a balance between the pirate theme, Majima's personality, and the overall Like a Dragon feel, intentionally blurring the lines of reality to deliver varied and engaging action. The goal was to avoid predictability, resulting in a gameplay experience described as "wilder, while maintaining a serious and proper drama."

Majima's Maji Festival: A Japanese Celebration

To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival, a special event touring six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, will conclude in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, starring the iconic "Mad Dog of Shimano," promises an unforgettable modern-day pirate adventure with thrilling combat, naval battles, a vibrant cast, and a compelling story.
