The highly anticipated second season of HBO's The Last of Us is set to include content that was originally cut from the video game The Last of Us Part 2, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann revealed that "pretty brutal" scenes will be revived, including some of the "Lost Levels" that were partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster of the game. These levels include Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offering a mix of calm and intense horror experiences for fans.

Druckmann expressed excitement about the inclusion of this cut content, describing it as "pretty brutal" and hinting at the introduction of a "pretty prominent" character who was only mentioned in the game. This approach mirrors the successful introduction of Frank in Season 1.

Season 2 will introduce a host of new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. Additionally, Catherine O'Hara joins the cast in a yet-to-be-revealed role, adding to the anticipation.

With the premiere of Episode 1 scheduled for April, fans won't have to wait long to dive into these new narratives. However, some mysteries may persist, as HBO plans to extend the adaptation of The Last of Us Part 2 beyond a single season. Unlike Season 1, which covered the entire first game, Season 2 will only cover part of the sequel's story. Showrunner Craig Mazin has noted that the second game has a lot more content to explore, and while Season 3 isn't officially greenlit yet, Season 2 has been structured to end at a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
