"Silksong Playable at Australian Museum in September 2025"
IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong: the highly anticipated game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. This sneak peek comes as part of the Game Worlds exhibition, which will also showcase the game's design and artistic direction.
Team Cherry, the Adelaide-based studio behind Silksong, has kept the gaming community on edge with a vague 2025 release window. However, with the game set to be playable at ACMI, fans are hopeful for a release before September 18, perhaps as early as August.
The Game Worlds exhibition promises a deep dive into Silksong's world, featuring hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet's movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind the game’s challenging boss fights. Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their excitement about featuring this South Australian-made game, stating, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September."
ACMI has shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, highlighting the intricate design elements that will be on display. This image, provided to IGN with permission, offers a glimpse into the game's artistic direction.
Recent updates from Team Cherry have kept the buzz alive, with Silksong making a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, confirming the 2025 release window. Originally planned for Nintendo Switch and PC, the game will also be available on Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
The anticipation around Silksong has been fueled by various teases from Team Cherry, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe at the start of 2025, leading fans to speculate about a potential re-reveal in April.
